(Reprint of paid ad in 6/30 Gazette) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Announces a Public Meeting (July 6) and Comment Period (July 1 - August 2) for the Ralston Superfund Site Cedar Rapids, Iowa The EPA is requesting public comment on the proposed plan for the Ralston Superfund site, 228 Blairs Ferry Road, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The proposed plan presents alternatives for cleanup of contaminated ground water and soil and EPA's preferred alternative. EPA's preferred alnernative includes restricting access to the site, maintaining the cap over the former disposal area, and natural attentuation, which means the concentration of contaminants in the ground water decrease naturally. The ground water will continue to be monitored. A 30-day public comment period on the proposed plan begins July 1, 1999, and ends August 2, 1999. EPA has established an Administrative Record File that contains site-related documents. The Administrative Record File is available for public review at the Cedar Rapids Library, 500 1st St., SE, Cedar Rapids, and the U.S. EPA Region 7, 901 N. 5th St., Kansas City, Kansas, during normal business hours. EPA invites you to attend a public meeting Thursday, July 6, 1999 at 7 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Water Department, 111 Shaver Road, NE Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The meeting will provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the proposed plan. EPA will not select the final remedy until all comments received from the public during the public comment period have been considered.
