MINES OF SPAIN FALL SEMINAR SEPT. 25

DES MOINES -An event that was last held during the falls of 1981 to
1985 is coming back thanks to the efforts of the Friends of the Mines of
Spain State Recreation Area.

The fall seminar features sessions in birding, photography in the
outdoors, Indian mound cultures, native tall grass prairies, hawks and
raptors, native Americans, Julien Dubuque, Mississippi fisheries, and
woodland plants and animals. Presenters for the  event include Larken
Powell, University of Dubuque; Larry Stone, independent photographer;
John Pearson, DNR zoologist; Shirley Schermer, Iowa Archaeology Office;
Robert Weideranders, Dubuque historian; and Bill Pusateri, D.O.T.

Sessions will be held Sept. 25 at the Mines of Spain in Dubuque
beginning at 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. A $5 registration fee
will be charged to cover expenses. To register or for more information,
