Howdy Folks, Yellowstone National Park needs your help. If you would like to see the Winter use of Yellowstone by hoards of snowmobiles curtailed, thus protecting wildlife and their habitat. (Also the health of park rangers who have to man the gates and breathe the fumes of hundreds of snowmobiles daily) Then please read the following message that was sent to me and visit the website where you too can send an electronic postcard to help protect the park. http://www.saveyellowstone.org/ Thanks, Rex Bavousett ps. please also pass this message on to any of your friends that would be concerned. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Rex, When you sent an email to the National Park Service recently, there was no fanfare. But here is some feedback. In all 50 states, people who care deeply about Yellowstone's future responded the way you did. They visited www.saveyellowstone.org and sent the site's electronic postcard to the Park Service, urging a restoration of clean air and wilderness quiet in our first national park. More good news: in the past month, a growing number of major newspapers across the country have cast a spotlight on what is at stake in Yellowstone. Today, for example, readers in Massachusetts picking up the Boston Globe, are learning about the campaign to protect Yellowstone—the campaign you helped by writing to the Park Service. From the Los Angeles Times to the Salt Lake Tribune to the Oregonian in Portland, editorial boards have issued strong calls for the Park Service to consider phasing out snowmobiles, to uphold values and qualities in Yellowstone that the agency let decline during the past 30 years. There is also predictable but troubling news: the Blue Ribbon Coalition, which lobbies for snowmobilers and is funded by the major manufacturers of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles, recently submitted 5,000 letters urging a continuation of snowmobiling in Yellowstone. Local politicians who are more supportive of short-term economic benefits than the long-term health of Yellowstone have also been exerting pressure on the Park Service to continue snowmobiling despite its impairment of air quality, wildlife, and a quieter experience sought by non-motorized park visitors. So we are asking for your help again. The Park Service has extended until December 15 its deadline for public comments. Please take a moment to think of five additional people who share your desire to see Yellowstone protected. Forward this email to those five park enthusiasts and encourage them to visit http://www.saveyellowstone.org/ It will only take them a few seconds to send a comment to the Park Service. With your help, we have elevated this crossroads for Yellowstone into a major national issue. Now, with your help, we are seeking to ensure that more people who want Yellowstone kept as unimpaired as possible will express their views to the Park Service in time to make a difference.
